Bio & CV

a little bit about me

I am an artist and researcher based in Arnhem, the Netherlands, creating sonic works at the intersection of listening practices, electroacoustic design, and artistic research. My work integrates field recordings into sound design for dance, theatre, and my own artistic projects, while exploring listening as a tool for rethinking and reshaping institutions and sites of learning in the arts. Drawing on sonic ethnographic methods, the aesthetics of sound design, and Deep Listening®, I develop practices that foster nonverbal connection, mutual trust, and openness to dialogue with the land.

I grew up in the United States (born in Pasadena, CA), and after spending time teaching in Jordan and studying in France, eventually settled in Arnhem, the Netherlands, where I now live and work. I studied piano at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Faculty of Music, and completed a Masters in Music Pedagogy at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, with my thesis ‘Feminisms, Technology, Improvisation: Pursuing a Libidinal Music Pedagogy‘ (2005).

I am currently Associate Editor of the Journal of Sonic Studies and owner of Hands-on Piano, Arnhem. From 2019-2025, I contributed as an artistic researcher to the Professorship Theory in the Arts at ArtEZ University of the Arts (2019-2025). For more information please consult my CV.

In September 2026 I will begin a four-year Professional Doctorate trajectory at Fontys Academy of the Arts, where I aim to investigate listening as a relational and care-full practice at the intersection of land, community, and lived experience of those with Parkinson’s disease. The project builds on my long-standing interest in how artistic listening practices can foster connection, reciprocity, and new ways of knowing.
